Nightly Routine for Better Sleep

Do you struggle to fall asleep at night?

I used to fall asleep wherever. I could be on the couch watching a movie or in the chair reading a book, then I would venture to bed and hope to fall right back asleep.

For the last 6 weeks, I have been doing a “nightly routine” to get me into bed at a reasonable time so I’m not falling asleep at random places in the house. My nightly routine now includes making a cup of tea around 7:30-8pm. By 8:30, I have my face washed, my rehab night cream applied, teeth brushed and I am in bed with a book. (Yes, an actual book. Not a book on my iPad.) I read for about 30 minutes, turn my lamp off and to sleep I go.

I don’t check my phone. I don’t scroll through social media. Did you know staring at the lights on our phones/iPads/computers/TVs actually stimulates the brain to keep you up at night?

So with my lights out around 9, I would say I’m asleep by 9:30ish and I have no problem getting out of bed at 5:45am each morning. Not to mention, my skin looks and feels great from washing off my make-up and hydrating my skin each night!

What are you going to do to make your nightly routine more relaxing?
